At Kidsville Vietnam, we believe that real healing comes from real relationships. That’s why, beyond our weekly program at The Mai’s Home shelter, this summer we took a meaningful step forward: we invited two children to live with the family of Mr. Lam, Ms. Khuong, and their 9-year-old daughter Joy, the co-founders of Kidsville.
🏡 A Week of Living, Loving, and Growing Together
While many children look forward to an exciting summer filled with family trips and warm memories, children in shelters often face long summer months with limited stimulation, few personal interactions, and even fewer opportunities for growth.
So this summer, we offered something simple yet powerful:
a week of living in a real home.
During that week:
- The children helped cook, clean, and share meals together like a true family
- They played and learned alongside Joy, who at 9 years old was the perfect bridge—both a friend and a gentle guide
- They went to the park, visited the supermarket, worked on fun summer exercises, and shared bedtime stories
It wasn’t a program. It wasn’t an event.
It was daily life—real, present, and filled with care.
💛 A Safe Space to Open Up and Bloom
Within just a few days, we noticed a beautiful shift:
the children smiled more, spoke more, asked questions, and looked around with curiosity and confidence. Most importantly, they began to feel safe—to be themselves.
Ms. Khuong shared:
“When children live with you, eat with you, and go through the day together, you begin to truly see what they need. One week like this brings far deeper impact than months of brief encounters.”
✨ Planting Seeds of Connection and Confidence
This experience wasn’t just a gift for the children. It was also a gift for Joy, who learned to share her space, her toys, and her heart. Through playing and caring, Joy grew too—becoming more compassionate and grounded.
