1. Context and Challenges
Currently, most of the children at the shelter face significant challenges in acquiring knowledge at public schools, especially in two foundational subjects: Math and English. These difficulties arise from multiple factors:
- Lack of guidance or supervision for home learning
- Overcrowded classrooms at school
- Poor nutrition and emotional instability affecting learning capacity
- Gaps in academic levels within the same class, causing many children to fall behind
2. Proposed Solution: Establishing an Online Learning Center
Through piloting a blended learning model (combining direct instruction with online educational platforms), we observed:
- Children show greater interest when learning through apps like Khan Academy, Duolingo, luyenthi123.com, and similar platforms
- They make noticeable academic progress when allowed to learn at their own pace and according to their ability
- Volunteers can teach remotely without needing to be physically present at the center, reducing time and travel costs
- Only one supervisor is needed to support a class of 20 students effectively
3. Objectives
The Learning Center aims to:
- Provide children with a safe, modern learning environment that supports academic recovery and skill development
- Enable personalized learning, thereby improving educational outcomes
- Increase children’s self-motivation, engagement, and independent learning abilities
We strongly believe that with initial investment in a modern learning system, the children at the shelter will have a real opportunity to thrive academically and grow holistically.
